The Agronomist will be responsible for leading and coordinate training and rural development activities under the project. This role involves working closely with local government offices, local communities and field teams. The ideal candidate should have a solid experience in agricultural development activities. The Agronomist will also contribute to strengthening sustainable rural livelihood systems by promoting improved agricultural practices and integrated crop–livestock approaches adapted to the local context. Particular attention will be given to soil and water conservation, climate-resilient agriculture, and the efficient use of natural resources in collaboration with local authorities and community structures.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Plan, coordinate and implement agricultural activities under the project in collaboration with the Project Coordinator and relevant stakeholders
Organize and facilitate training sessions, demonstrations, and field days for beneficiaries in coordination with local authorities and development agents.
Monitor agricultural interventions and provide regular technical guidance to ensure activities are implemented effectively and according to project plans.
Collaborate with local government offices (Agriculture Offices, Development Agents, etc.) to ensure alignment with local development strategies and strengthen institutional coordination.
Contribute to the preparation of work plans, activity reports, and monitoring data related to agricultural interventions.
Provide technical support and training to farmers on improved agricultural practices, including crop production, soil fertility management, fodder development, and integrated crop–livestock systems.
Ensure proper documentation of activities, including training reports, beneficiary lists, and technical monitoring information.
Undertake whatever activity or task may be required for fostering the vision, work and interest of the Organization and / or may be requested by the immediate supervisor, CR and CVM Director.
Professional Requirements:
- Degree in Agriculture or other related fields
- At least 3 years of professional experience in rural agricultural projects
- Good written and spoken knowledge of Amharic and English
- Knowledge of local languages is considered an advantage
- Preferably, experience in international cooperation organizations
Preferably, knowledge and experience in sustainable agricultural practices, soil and water conservation, and climate-resilient farming techniques, basic livestock management and integrated crop-livestock production systems.
