About This Role
This role places you at the heart of ZamZam Bank’s physical expansion strategy, combining operational leadership with Shari’ah-compliant service delivery. As a Branch Manager I, you will oversee daily banking operations, drive customer acquisition in underserved communities, and ensure that all activities align with interest-free banking principles. It suits seasoned banking professionals who are ready to transition from back-office or supervisory roles into full branch ownership, particularly those who value purpose-driven finance over conventional profit metrics.
What the Requirements Say About This Role
The seniority level signals a search for candidates who have already mastered core banking operations and can now manage teams, budgets, and compliance without close supervision. Emphasis on economics, management, and accounting suggests the bank expects you to interpret financial data, control costs, and maintain audit-ready records—not just supervise tellers. The five-to-eight-year experience band implies you should have held at least one previous supervisory role, ideally in retail or microfinance banking, where you handled customer complaints, staff scheduling, and daily reconciliation.
How to Approach This Application
Your cover letter should explicitly connect your past experience to Shari’ah-compliant banking—mention any exposure to mudarabah, murabahah, or similar products, even if tangential. ZamZam Bank values financial inclusion, so highlight instances where you opened accounts for low-income clients or expanded services into rural or semi-urban areas. Since the bank is growing its branch network, emphasize your ability to ramp up operations quickly—talk about launching a new branch, hitting deposit targets, or training junior staff in a fast-paced setting.
Who This Role Suits
This role is ideal for mid-career bankers who have managed a profit center before and are comfortable with both Shari’ah compliance and aggressive growth targets. Competition will be moderate but focused—candidates with prior interest-free banking experience or a strong network in Addis Ababa’s business community will have a clear edge.
