About This Role
This position involves being the on-the-ground data steward for a multi-faceted SME development project. It suits someone who enjoys blending fieldwork with structured data management, ensuring that the stories of small businesses are accurately captured and reported to inform project decisions. The role sits within a continental trade group, meaning your work will directly support economic empowerment for youth and women-led enterprises across Ethiopia.
What the Requirements Say About This Role
The listed qualifications point to a need for a candidate who is both technically comfortable with data systems and practically adept at working in varied field conditions. The 1-3 years of experience suggests the employer values someone who has already navigated the challenges of collecting reliable data outside a controlled office environment, rather than a pure data entry specialist. They are seeking a problem-solver who can train and support field officers, implying strong interpersonal and communication skills are just as critical as technical know-how.
How to Approach This Application
In your cover letter, go beyond listing your data entry speed. Emphasize a specific instance where you improved data quality or overcame a logistical challenge during fieldwork, such as adapting a digital tool for low-connectivity areas. The employer will prioritize evidence of your ability to maintain accuracy under pressure and your understanding of how clean data drives meaningful project outcomes for MSMEs.
Who This Role Suits
This role is ideal for a mid-level data professional who enjoys a mix of field engagement and desk-based analysis, and who is motivated by development impact. It will be moderately competitive, attracting candidates with backgrounds in monitoring and evaluation for social projects.
