About This Role
This role blends financial stewardship with operational backbone for a humanitarian project in Harar. You will be the on-the-ground financial gatekeeper for Tearfund’s Ethiopia Joint Response, ensuring donor funds are used with precision while also running office logistics and procurement. It suits a finance professional who thrives in a field-based, multi-tasking environment—someone comfortable balancing spreadsheets with supply chains.
What the Requirements Say About This Role
The employer is looking for a practitioner who can enforce financial controls without direct supervision, implying deep familiarity with donor compliance (likely Dutch or EU standards). The request for 3-5 years’ experience suggests they want someone who has already navigated audit trails and fraud prevention, not a trainee. The admin component signals they value adaptability—you’ll need to pivot from reconciling accounts to arranging transport or supplies on the same day.
How to Approach This Application
Emphasize your hands-on experience with donor-funded projects and any exposure to procurement or logistics in a remote setting. Highlight specific instances where you safeguarded assets or prevented financial loss—concrete examples of detecting discrepancies will stand out. Since the role is in Harar, demonstrate readiness for field-based work and familiarity with the region’s operational realities.
Who This Role Suits
This role is ideal for a mid-career finance officer with a humanitarian bent who wants to move beyond desk work and into direct project support. It will be competitive among candidates with NGO experience, but less so for those unwilling to relocate to Harar.
