About This Role

This role places you at the intersection of finance and manufacturing operations at one of Ethiopia’s major steel producers. Rather than a general accounting function, the position demands a focus on production cost tracking, variance analysis, and inventory control within a factory setting. It is best suited for an accountant who is comfortable working closely with operational teams and translating shop-floor data into financial reports.

What the Requirements Say About This Role

The preference for cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment signals that the employer needs someone who understands production workflows, not just bookkeeping. The implied profile is a professional who can independently manage inventory valuations and spot inefficiencies in material, labor, or overhead usage. Expect a strong emphasis on analytical thinking and familiarity with ERP systems tailored for industrial accounting.

How to Approach This Application

In your cover letter and interview, highlight specific examples of how you have tracked manufacturing costs or reduced variances in a previous role. Emphasize your ability to conduct physical stock counts and reconcile WIP data, as these are central to the job. The employer likely prioritizes candidates who can immediately handle the complexities of a steel mill’s cost structure, so be ready to discuss real-world scenarios from your past experience.

Best Fit

Who This Role Suits

This role is ideal for a mid-level accountant with at least three years in a manufacturing or industrial environment who enjoys hands-on data analysis. Competition is moderate, but candidates without direct cost accounting exposure may face a tougher screening process.
