About This Role
This is a field-based senior coordination role within an Ethiopian civil society organization, focused on integrating sustainable natural resource management with community livelihoods. The project, funded by NORAD and implemented in southwestern Ethiopia, requires a professional who can navigate both technical environmental work and community engagement in a multi-regional context. It suits an experienced project manager who is comfortable working outside Addis Ababa and understands the dynamics of donor-funded development in Ethiopia’s forested and wetland regions.
What the Requirements Say About This Role
The search is for a seasoned professional with five to eight years of experience, implying the employer values proven leadership in managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects rather than entry-level potential. The emphasis on natural resource management and livelihoods suggests the ideal candidate has a strong grounding in participatory approaches and can bridge technical conservation goals with tangible community benefits. Fluency in local languages and familiarity with the southwestern Ethiopian context will likely be a significant advantage.
How to Approach This Application
Your application should highlight specific examples of coordinating multi-regional projects with government and community partners, particularly in natural resource or environmental sectors. Emphasize your experience with donor reporting and budget management, as NORAD-funded projects require rigorous accountability. Tailor your cover letter to show understanding of the intersection between rights-based approaches, forest management, and livelihood improvement in Ethiopia’s developing regions.
Who This Role Suits
This role is best suited for an experienced project coordinator with a background in environmental or agricultural development and a willingness to work in a remote field location. It is likely competitive due to the specialized nature of the project and the reputation of the organization, but candidates with direct experience in southwestern Ethiopia will stand out.
