Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Officer - Unilever
Talent Search - EthiojobsAbout This Role
This is an on-the-ground safety role within a global FMCG giant, requiring you to embed SHE standards into both factory and field operations. You’ll act as the daily safety conscience for Unilever’s Ethiopia operations, blending routine audits with incident response and culture-building activities like safety bonding sessions. It suits a junior professional who wants to build a career in operational safety within a multinational, rather than a purely administrative SHE role.
What the Requirements Say About This Role
While the listing likely asks for a relevant degree (e.g., environmental health, safety engineering) and 1–3 years of experience, what it truly seeks is someone who can translate policy into practice on the factory floor and in field teams. The emphasis on “daily walkthroughs” and “contractor safety monitoring” signals a need for someone proactive, comfortable with hands-on inspections, and capable of influencing behavior without formal authority. You should be equally comfortable leading a safety moment discussion and filing an incident report.
How to Approach This Application
Focus your CV and cover letter on concrete examples of conducting safety audits, leading toolbox talks, or managing emergency equipment—even from internships or university projects. Unilever values its strong safety culture, so highlight any experience where you helped change unsafe behaviors or improved a safety process. Mention familiarity with reporting systems and incident investigation frameworks (like root cause analysis) to stand out. Avoid generic safety statements; show you understand that SHE in a manufacturing-and-field context means both physical plant safety and road safety for mobile teams.
Who This Role Suits
This role is best for a junior SHE professional who is action-oriented and comfortable working across different work environments—from factory floors to marketing offices. It is moderately competitive, as Unilever is a desirable employer, but the junior level and specific operational focus mean a well-prepared candidate with relevant internship or early-career safety experience has a strong chance.
