About This Role

This is a field-level social work position within a women-led Ethiopian NGO operating in a post-conflict or active humanitarian setting in Tigray. The role focuses on implementing a European Union-funded project that aims to strengthen local civil society and community-based protection systems. It is ideal for a junior professional who wants hands-on experience in protection and governance work in a challenging, high-need environment.

What the Requirements Say About This Role

The posting is seeking someone with 1-3 years of experience, which suggests the employer values practical field exposure over academic credentials. They are likely looking for candidates who have already navigated the realities of community work in Tigray or similar regions, including managing sensitive protection cases. The requirement implies you need to be comfortable working with local authorities and community structures, not just individual beneficiaries.

How to Approach This Application

Your application should demonstrate your understanding of the local context in Alamata and the broader Tigray region. Emphasize any previous experience with community-based protection, case management, or working with vulnerable groups. Since the funder is the European Union, highlight any familiarity with donor reporting or project cycle management, even if basic. Be specific about how you have handled confidentiality and ethical dilemmas in the field.

Best Fit

Who This Role Suits

This role is best suited for a social worker with at least one year of direct community engagement in a fragile or post-conflict setting. It is likely moderately competitive due to the EU funding and the organization’s reputation, but it favors candidates with local knowledge over those with purely academic backgrounds.
