About This Role

This is a frontline emergency response role with International Medical Corps, suited for medical professionals comfortable working in volatile or resource-limited settings. The Surge Medical Doctor will be deployed to Deka Softu during crises or high patient surges, essentially acting as a rapid reinforcement for overburdened health facilities. This role demands adaptability to shifting conditions, as you may move between facilities and work under extreme pressure to stabilize patients and sustain essential services.

What the Requirements Say About This Role

The requirements go beyond clinical skills—they signal a need for resilience, leadership, and the ability to function with minimal resources. IMC is seeking a doctor who can independently manage trauma and emergency cases while also mentoring local staff, implying a dual focus on direct care and capacity building. The mid-level seniority (3-5 years) suggests they value practical field experience over academic credentials alone, particularly in humanitarian or low-resource contexts.

How to Approach This Application

Emphasize your experience in emergency medicine, triage, and working in under-resourced or crisis-affected environments. Highlight any prior roles in surge response, disaster relief, or mentoring junior staff, as IMC prioritizes candidates who can strengthen local teams under pressure. Tailor your cover letter to demonstrate adaptability—mention specific examples of stabilizing critical patients or managing outbreaks in challenging settings. Avoid generic clinical summaries; instead, focus on your ability to hit the ground running with minimal orientation.

Best Fit

Who This Role Suits

This role is best suited for Ethiopian medical doctors with 3-5 years of experience in emergency or primary care, particularly those who have worked in rural or conflict-affected areas. It is moderately competitive due to the specialized nature of surge work and IMC’s reputation, but candidates with proven field deployment experience will stand out.
