Capacity Development Officer
Alage Agricultural, Technical, Vocational and Training (ATVT) CollegeAbout This Role
This role sits at the intersection of education and field-level veterinary practice, focusing on strengthening the skills of Animal Health graduates after they leave formal training. You will design and deliver continuous professional development (CPD) programmes, working closely with a college, a major international animal welfare organisation, and government ministries. The position suits someone who enjoys building training systems from the ground up and is comfortable travelling across multiple regions to reach alumni in their work environments.
What the Requirements Say About This Role
The employer is looking for someone who combines instructional design skills with practical understanding of animal health service delivery in rural Ethiopia. You are expected to have experience in curriculum development or adult learning, not just veterinary knowledge – the role is about teaching trainers and designing learning pathways, not treating animals yourself. The three-year contract and partnership with The Donkey Sanctuary suggest they value long-term commitment and alignment with animal welfare principles beyond pure production.
How to Approach This Application
Emphasise any experience you have in developing training modules for field-based professionals, especially in agricultural or veterinary contexts. Speak to how you have measured whether training actually changed practice on the ground – they will want to see results, not just activity. Since the role requires travel to four regions, demonstrate your understanding of the logistical and cultural challenges of delivering consistent training across Oromia, Sidama, Central Ethiopia, and Amhara.
Who This Role Suits
Best suited for a mid-career professional with experience in agricultural extension, TVET system strengthening, or animal health programme management – and a genuine interest in building durable skills systems rather than one-off events. Competition will be moderate, as the role combines development and education in a niche but growing sector.
