Welfare Officer
Alage Agricultural, Technical, Vocational and Training (ATVT) CollegeAbout This Role
This role is about leading animal welfare interventions in the field, not just handling daily veterinary cases. You will serve as a technical authority for donkey and mule welfare across multiple regions in Ethiopia, coordinating with a college, an international NGO, and a government ministry. It suits a mid-career professional who can combine hands-on animal care with project oversight and stakeholder coordination, especially someone committed to improving working equine welfare in rural and agricultural settings.
What the Requirements Say About This Role
The listing seeks someone with a background in veterinary services or animal health, but the emphasis is on applied welfare knowledge and field experience. You are expected to understand international welfare standards and translate them into local practice, which implies you need both formal training and practical exposure to equine care in Ethiopia. The role also requires strong communication and reporting skills to bridge between field teams, partner organizations, and policy frameworks.
How to Approach This Application
In your application, highlight specific examples where you have assessed or improved animal welfare in field conditions, particularly with donkeys or mules. Emphasize your familiarity with OIE or national animal welfare guidelines, and demonstrate your ability to work in multi-stakeholder environments involving government bodies and NGOs. Since this is a fixed-term project role, show that you are comfortable with structured timelines, reporting cycles, and travel across the listed regions.
Who This Role Suits
This role is best suited for a veterinary or animal science professional with at least three years of field experience in equine welfare or rural livestock programs. Given the partnership with an international organization and a government ministry, it is likely moderately competitive and will prioritize candidates with proven project implementation skills.
