About This Role
This Purchaser role with Menschen fuer Menschen Foundation is a hands-on procurement position within a well-established international NGO focused on integrated rural development. Unlike corporate purchasing, this job involves sourcing materials and services to support field operations in remote areas, requiring not just negotiation skills but also logistical problem-solving. It suits a mid-career professional who is comfortable with administrative rigor and operational fieldwork, including driving.
What the Requirements Say About This Role
The listing’s emphasis on “excellent vehicle driving skill” alongside procurement duties signals that this is not a desk-bound role—you will likely travel to suppliers, markets, or project sites regularly. The call for “responsible, trust” suggests the foundation prioritizes ethical conduct and transparency in handling funds and goods, common in development work where accountability to donors is critical. The ideal candidate is someone who combines purchasing know-how with practical, on-the-ground reliability.
How to Approach This Application
In your application, highlight any experience procuring for rural or remote projects, as this will demonstrate your ability to manage the logistics challenges unique to NGOs in Ethiopia. Emphasize your trustworthiness with examples of handling budgets or inventory, and clearly state your driving proficiency, including any relevant licenses. The employer likely values candidates who can show they understand the foundation’s mission beyond just transactional purchasing.
Who This Role Suits
This role is best suited for an experienced procurement officer who enjoys field-based work and values mission-driven employment over high-pressure corporate environments. Competition is moderate, as the foundation is reputable but the role demands a specific blend of administrative and practical skills.
