REPORTS TO: Program Manager / Principal Investigator
DUTY STATION: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (with travel as required)
PROGRAM: Malaria Vaccine Modeling and Evaluation Project
MINIMUM HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours per week

Project HOPE is an international non-governmental organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of communities around the world. In Ethiopia, Project HOPE partners with government institutions, local organizations, and communities to deliver high-impact, sustainable health programs. The organization focuses on strengthening health systems, building workforce capacity, and generating evidence to inform policy and practice.

Project Background

The Malaria Vaccine Modeling and Evaluation Project aims to generate robust, policy-relevant evidence to inform national decision-making on malaria prevention strategies in Ethiopia, including the potential deployment of the R21/Matrix-M™ malaria vaccine. The project integrates advanced in silico modeling with program evaluation and documentation to assess the potential impact, cost-effectiveness, and operational feasibility of vaccine introduction.

This Phase 1 initiative will generate critical evidence to inform investment decisions and serve as a gateway to Phase 2 implementation, in close collaboration with the Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI), the Ministry of Health Ethiopia, and other partners.

Job Summary

The Research Coordinator will support the implementation and coordination of all research activities across the modeling and program evaluation components. The role will ensure that study protocols are executed efficiently, data collection and documentation processes are well managed, and research activities are aligned with project objectives and timelines.

Working closely with the Principal Investigator and Program Manager, the Research Coordinator will facilitate collaboration between technical teams, support field and analytical work, and ensure adherence to ethical standards and research quality requirements.

Specific Roles and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate day-to-day research activities across modeling and evaluation workstreams 

  • Support development and implementation of study protocols, tools, and data collection systems 

  • Ensure compliance with ethical standards and regulatory requirements 

  • Coordinate data collection, management, and quality assurance processes 

  • Liaise with research partners, field teams, and stakeholders to support smooth implementation 

  • Support data analysis, documentation, and report writing 

  • Track progress of research activities and contribute to reporting and deliverables 

  • Organize meetings, workshops, and stakeholder consultations 

  • Maintain proper documentation of all research processes and outputs 

Note: This position is locally recruited and contingent upon funding availability and final award.

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Sciences, or related field 

  • 8 years of experience in research coordination or program implementation 

  • Experience in infectious diseases or malaria research preferred 

  • Strong understanding of research methods, data management, and ethics processes 

  • Excellent organizational and coordination skills 

  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
