About This Role
This is a senior operational leadership role within Ethiopia’s steel manufacturing sector, requiring someone who can manage the full material flow from global supplier negotiations to factory floor delivery. It suits a professional who thrives on balancing cost control with production continuity, especially in a capital-intensive industry where raw material availability directly impacts output. The role sits within a major industrial player, meaning you will be expected to align supply chain decisions with broader business strategy, not just manage logistics.
What the Requirements Say About This Role
The emphasis on strategic procurement and international sourcing signals that the ideal candidate is not merely a logistics coordinator but a commercial negotiator with experience in commodity markets. The mention of billets, scrap, and spare parts from both local and international markets suggests the employer values familiarity with cross-border trade regulations, currency management, and supplier risk assessment—typical hurdles in Ethiopia’s industrial import landscape. A background in heavy manufacturing or metals is likely preferred, as understanding production lead times and material specifications is critical.
How to Approach This Application
Highlight specific examples of cost reduction or supply continuity achievements in a manufacturing or industrial setting—numbers matter here. Emphasize any experience negotiating with international suppliers, particularly in markets like scrap or steel, and how you navigated challenges such as forex availability or logistics delays in Ethiopia. Demonstrating a track record of cross-functional collaboration with production teams will also set you apart, as the role demands alignment between procurement and factory needs.
Who This Role Suits
This role is best suited for an experienced supply chain professional with 5–8 years in heavy industry or manufacturing, ideally with exposure to international procurement in a developing market context. Given the strategic nature of the position and the company’s standing, competition will be moderate to high, but candidates with proven results in Ethiopian industrial environments will have a strong edge.
